Dan Pontefract

As head of learning and collaboration at Telus, Dan is responsible for the leadership, learning and collaboration strategy for the Canadian telecommunications firm. He was hired by Telus in 2008, previously holding senior positions with SAP, Business Objects, Crystal Decisions and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). David Vance

David Vance is the former president of Caterpillar University, which he founded in 2001. Until his retirement in January 2007, he was responsible for ensuring that the right education, training and leadership were provided to achieve corporate goals and efficiently meet the learning needs of Caterpillar and dealer employees. Before this position, Vance was chief economist and manager of the business intelligence group at Caterpillar Inc., with responsibility for economic outlooks, sales forecasts, market research, competitive analysis and business information systems. He now consults with organizations on learning and performance issues, with a focus on launching corporate universities and designing effective strategies for managing the learning function, including alignment, governance and measurement. His firm is Manage Learning LLC. Vance was named 2006 CLO of the Year by Chief Learning Officer magazine. He also was named 2004 Corporate University Leader of the Year by the International Quality and Productivity Council in its annual Corporate University Best In Class Awards. Deanna Hartley

Frank Kalman

Frank Kalman is a senior editor of Chief Learning Officer magazine. He is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where he earned his master’s of science degree in Dec. 2010. He is also a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington, earning a degree in American history in May 2009. Prior to joining MediaTec, Frank served as an editorial intern for Crain’s Chicago Business, covering commercial and residential real estate for Crain’s real estate spinoff, ChicagoRealEstateDaily. Kate Everson

Kate Everson graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism and minors in Italian and film studies. Her experience includes reporting at a daily city newspaper, interning for a bimonthly investigative journal and editing the print and Web editions of Vox Magazine. Her passion for business and HR journalism is rooted in the idea that no matter what happens in the world, there will always be questions to ask and answers to find relating to commerce. As managing editor, Kellye Whitney oversees the print content for Chief Learning Officer magazine. She joined MediaTec Publications Inc. in February 2004 as an associate editor. Ladan Nikravan

Ladan Nikravan is a senior editor of Chief Learning Officer magazine. She is from Chicago and graduated from the University of Missouri School Of Journalism, where she majored in magazine journalism. Marci Paino

Marci Paino is a senior instructional designer at Intrepid Learning Solutions. She earned her Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) designation from the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), M.A. in educational technology from San Diego State University and B.S. in organizational communication, learning and design from Ithaca College. Paino volunteers for ISPI, serving on several committees, forming the Emerging Professional Committee, and earning the Presidential Citation in 2009 and 2010. Mike Prokopeak

Mike Prokopeak is editorial director of MediaTec Publishing Inc. Mike directs content for the CLO Symposium live conference series, the CLO Breakfast Club programs and all MediaTec magazines, as well as the e-Seminar series, research initiatives and special projects.

Mike brings a wide range of experience in journalism, publishing, and marketing along with a proven track record of editorial achievement to MediaTec. After joining Mountain Living Magazine in Flagstaff, Ariz., as a reporter, he worked his way up to editor in chief, eventually taking on general manager responsibilities for the magazine and its sister publication, Flagstaff Live, both owned by Pulitzer Newspapers Inc. He directed the editorial, design, advertising and events departments and successfully led a complete redesign of the publications. Mike has also worked with leading educational publishing companies, including Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and the Great Books Foundation. Tammara Combs

Tammara Combs is the founder of Serendipity Interactive, LLC, a company that specializes in multichannel sales and marketing, customer-centered design and IT managed services. As a corporate vice president at Lowe’s Companies, Combs had responsibility for the company’s corporate e-commerce website and shaped the online strategy for the company. In this role, Combs managed the customer experience, merchandising and marketing of the site. With more than 15 years of experience in social computing, her focus has been in online community development related to grassroots creativity and innovation within corporations.
